Hope you are having a relaxing Sunday. I’ve
still got some leaves that need wrangling before
I’m ready for winter.
I was attending Automobile University (listening
to audio biz books in my car) as I do almost
every day and I came across this great tip for
a marketing message.
Here goes:
Use the Hollywood method next time you create an
advertisement or sales letter for your product.
This method is the same outline for many many
movie scripts and fits advertising like a glove.
Consider your message as a 3-act play.
Act 1. The intro conflict between hero and villain
Act 2. Hero and villain clash. As the hero tries to
resolve the conflict, the villain keeps him away from
it.
Act 3. The hero is victorious.
This type of method is really powerful, because it’s
a formula that everyone is used to following and it
also keeps the reader’s attention.
This can work for any business if you get a little
creative.
Let me show you a few examples:
(Shower cleaner)
1. The homeowner has terrible mildew stains on her tile.
2. She tries everything she can to get the stains off,
but alas, cannot find anything that works.
3. Our fair maiden finds ACME Shower Magic, sprays it
on and instantly, no more mildew.
Got it? Kind of fun right?
Here’s another:
(Consulting service or professional service)
1. A business owner has serious productivity problems
among employees and is in danger of losing the business.
2. The business owner tries to think of ideas on her own,
but only causes a clash with the unruly employees.
3. Shape-Up management consulting swoops in and tames
the unruly employees with some great training.
Make sense?
You can use this method with any business, and it
definitely does not have to be corny either.
