When Marketing Your Product- Be Like Duct Tape

by Joshua Black

Today’s Tip Sheet is all about stickiness.

Yep, just like duct tape, except this kind
of stickiness will make you tons of cash and
won’t rip out your arm hairs.

Stickiness is the theory that your product
idea will either make it or fizzle out into
nothingness based on how much your idea
“sticks” in the mind of your customer.

Here are a few tips about stickiness that
will help you in your product development
or even with marketing an idea about your
business:

1. Only market ONE big idea, concept, benefit,
or angle about your product.

2. Don’t have “feature creep” into your
product. Just look at how crazy cell phones
are. Do they even make one that just makes
calls?

3. Your big idea needs to be relevant to the
market and needs to be easy to remember.

4. Make sure your product only does what it
is supposed to do really well, and doesn’t
do anything else. (see also “feature creep”)

5. There needs to be a viral component about
the product, such as you need someone else
to have one to use it, so you are inclined
to try and get your buddies to buy one too.

6. It is worth talking about around the
water cooler, bar, dorm room, wherever.

“Oh man, have you seen the latest… It
does… and I just have to have it… it’s
so cool!”

7. You must use it and live it yourself.
Don’t think you are too big for your
britches and try to introduce a product that
you do not eat, sleep, and breathe in your
own life.

8. Be FIRST! If you can get the position
in your prospect’s mind that you are the one
to go to, it is a very hard position to take
over by your competition.

You don’t have to be 100% original, just be
first with your particular solution to a
problem and then flaunt the fact that you are
number one.

That should just about do it…

Now, if you are interested in actually SELLING
your new widgit that you just so cleverly stickified
in your marketplace, go on over to:

…and start getting RICH!

Now if I can just get this tape off my face…
