What do The Texas 2-Step and The Success of Your Small Business Have in Common?

2 Step Marketing Process

by Joshua Black

Sorry for the bad country line
dancing headline today, but
I just had to do it.

You see, there is a disturbing trend
that is happening in small business
recently and I think it is entirely
due to the fact that too many people
are not going back to the basics.

There is a better way to sell than to just interrupt your customer and badger them until they open up their wallet just to make you go away.

I’m talking about the 2-step sales
process, and even the multi-step
sales process.

It’s hard to sell things to people.

You have almost everything stacked
against you when you are engaging
a “cold” customer.

They don’t know you.

They don’t care about you.

They don’t trust you.

…and they definitely don’t give a
rat’s fuzzy booty about your product
or service.

But there is a way to totally avoid
this.

Using a 2-step (minimum) sales process.
This is where you have some kind of
ad or sales letter and the person calls
a number or clicks a link for more information.

When you sell with multiple steps, instead of
just trying to sell at the first encounter,
it’s like a job interview.

The customer slowly gets to learn more
about you.

As they learn about you and engage with
your services they will be much more inclined
to buy.

It’s just like signing up for the Underdog
Millionaire Tip Sheet. You didn’t know
me, so you took a tiny gamble and gave
me your email address for a whole ton
of valuable free stuff.

In return, I get to prove to you that
I know what I am talking about and maybe
some day you may feel as though you need
one of my products.

I would not be able to grow this
relationship if I had not created a multi-step
sales process.

This also can be done through article writing.

You generate interest through the article (step 1)
and move the customer to a sales letter (step 2)
or an email squeeze page (multiple step).

Take it from the Texans. You’ve gotta have a
2-step or your sales will be as thin as I
would be if I only had cauliflower to eat (can’t
stand the stuff).

Hey Josh –

A funny picture and a great idea. I think you are right – people probably do not enjoy getting a sales pitch out of nowhere. I know I don’t. A better approach would be, as you said, to take someone through it slowly and convince them that they need it prior to the sales pitch.

Well, my afternoon is ruined. I will be thinking about how people sold me stuff all day.

Thanks!

Mark, I’m glad that I got to ruin your day. Someone had to do it. :)

Alex

Once again you have combined all the elements of effective blogging in one! Great title, draws me in (only took two steps as well) then the content is visual in terms of explanation, which helps, then you strategically intertwine a very helpful and related product (that you created!!) and gave us a lesson at the end.
This is why I want to grow up and be like you LOL!

Hey Joshua,

Really great site,

I just foudn you from Alex’s site and am really impressed with everything you’ve got going on here.

Have you ever heard of something called “High Probability Selling” ? I found it really insightful on a lot of different levels. (even though I’m not selling anything)

Peace,

Darren,

Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I’ve heard of High Probability Selling. It’s just a franchise of high-priced sales seminars that supposedly teach you a whole new world of selling, but are basically just teaching you the same thing I show in my Ultimate Sales Bible. Relationship-building and mutual respect for the customer. You can sell anything to someone that doesn’t want it.
