If you have a web site, I think you’re
gonna be interested in the Tip Sheet for
the next couple of days.
If you don’t have a web site for your
small business yet, you need to get one.
When I was starting my business, one of
my biggest problems was that I had a web
site that I just worked on for a bunch of
hours, toiling away at every detail and
when it was done I had no good way to get
the search engines to notice it.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is more
of an art than it is a science, especially
since they change the rules all the time.
So, how in the heck are you supposed to
get noticed when you are competing against
all of the other yahoos out there for the
first page, let alone the number one slot?
Well my friend, there are two things that
you can do:
1. Create new content and keep creating
new content as long as you have your business.
Now you don’t have to act like a crazy person
the way I do and write every single day along
with creating hundreds of articles (I might
actually have a problem).
But you do need to create new content on your
site at least a few times a month, weekly is
even better.
2. Organize your entire page around one or
two keywords that are NOT your business name.
Most people don’t care about your business name
and are probably not searching for it. They want
a solution to their problem and won’t care if you
are AJAX Oil Change Shoppe or SPEEDEE Dry Cleaners.
Find a niche keyword where there is not a lot of
competition (yes this is hard, I’m not going to lie)
and develop your whole page around that.
SEO is like a crazed animal running around and
sometimes you get lucky and grab the tail for
a ride on occasion.
There are a ton of things that you can do, so
stay tuned this week for more.
If you don’t have a website (tsk tsk…) hold
on to this and print it out. You can use it
when you get one.
May all of your pages hit number one.
Until tomorrow,
Joshua Black
P.S. As you have probably noticed, I took off the
statement at the end of my emails about using any
replies you send me in my advertising.
Clearly you don’t like that statement, because my
feedback dropped to almost zero since I added that.
I respect your privacy and always want to hear from
you, so I promise that I will always ask you if you
give me a great comment that I’d like to use later.
