I really like music a lot, and one of my
favorite artists of all time is country
singer Johnny Cash.
No matter how you feel about country, one
of his song’s has a great business lesson
in it.
He sang a song once about the Farmer’s
Almanac, which is a book in the U.S that has
been around since the 1800′s and comes out
annually.
It’s supposed to predict the weather and
rainfall so that farmers can predict growing
conditions.
Well, as you can imagine anything that
predicts the weather a year or more in advance
isn’t much more help than a fortune cookie,
but these things also contained little pearls
of wisdom about how to live life properly.
One of them struck a cord with Johnny Cash
and he sang about it. It goes:
“Lies have to be covered up, but the truth
can run around naked.”
Now before you get all upset and have your itchy
fingers on the “reply” button, I’m not saying
anyone is a liar or anything close to that.
There are just times when small business
owners may not be telling the whole story to
their customers.
Maybe you have a product that does not deliver
as well as it could, but you really need to
get rid of them.
Maybe you offer a service that is sub-par
compared to the rest of your services.
Try telling your customers that certain things
may not be the best.
I always appreciate when wait-staff at restaurants
tell me that a certain item is not very good.
Do that with your business.
You could say that you offer a certain item to
make your business a one-stop shop, but the
customer might be better off going down the
street for that particular item.
You can bet that next time the customer
needs what you excel at, that will come running
due to the way you were straight with them
the first time.
It’s the same way with selling. You can con your
way into a close or you can develop a relationship.

different techniques for closing the sale at:
You never know, it might rain tomorrow, it might
not, but if you operate with full disclosure it
won’t rain on your business.
Until tomorrow,
