The Art of The Up-Sell: Do You Want Fries with That?

by Joshua Black

Today’s Tip Sheet is all about the up-sell.

McDonald’s revitalized their sales into the
billions of dollars by starting to ask the famous
question “do you want fries with that?”

…or “chips” for our friends across the pond.

You can do this to, and it works no matter what
business you are in.

You can even do this if you are in a service
industry.

“Do you want your blinds cleaned with that carpet
service?”

“Do you want your water softener flushed with your
plumbing service?”

“Do you want a pair of earring to go with that
necklace?”

“Would you like a dessert to go with your meal?”

The reason the up-sell is so powerful is that
the customer has changed their frame of mind.

They have gone from a skeptical prospect to a
compliant BUYER.

Once they have justified the large purchase in
their mind, it does not take much to add on
another product for just a few dollars more.

In their mind they are thinking, “hey, why not?”

You can close on an up-sell as much as 30-40% of
the time if you have a reasonable product that
does not take much justification to purchase.

Think of how many times it has happened to you
at the store?

If you are not up-selling your customers you
are leaving money on the table… lot’s
of money.

Think of ways that you can add small products to
each sale, on-line or off so that you can
increase your profits today.

You already have a BUYING customer in front of
you.

Up-selling does not cost you a dime. All you have
to do is ask.

You will be pleasantly surprised.

So…do you want fries with that, or what?

Until tomorrow,

P.S. One great way to create a quick product for
up-selling on-line is to create an information
product as a low-cost report.
