Testing, testing, 1 2 3?

by Joshua Black

Nope, today’s Tip Sheet is not going to
be a quiz.

In fact, it’s not even a test for your
customers.

I am talking about testing your marketing
materials.

No matter what business you are in, you
need customers or else you don’t get paid.

In order to get customers you have to have
convincing marketing material, sales
letters, flyers, emails, commercials, ads,
whatever you use…

In order to have successful materials you
have to test them with YOUR audience.

You also need to make DRASTIC changes between
your test pieces to know which one will
pull more customers.

There are gooooorooooos out there that will
tell you that only changing a headline
can bring you 1500% more sales.

Well, this is only true if the other
headline was absolute horse-poop.

They also talk about changing background
colors on your web page to gain hundreds
of percent more sales.

Unless the other color is neon pink and
you test it vs. white, it’s all hogwash.

You can test until you are blue in the
face, but who has time or money to do
that?

Here is the quick and dirty Underdog
Millionaire market testing method:

1. Have 3 completely different pieces
to test. Even change the offers in each
one.

2. Take a small section of your list and
mail or email each letter to a separate
group. To give you an accurate test you
should go for at least 3 groups of 500
people per test for statistical
significance.

If you don’t have 500, test with
whatever you have, even if it’s 30.

Just let it be known that your results
may not translate on a bigger scale.

3. Once you have your favorite, mega-
selling marketing piece, take that
one and re-write a slightly different
version of it.

Run another test.

Now you have your mega-selling ad.

Viola!

You can get as bogged down as you want
to with testing, but if you are spending
all of your time testing instead of out
in the trenches selling, you’re wasting
you time where you could be bringing
in more customers.

Until tomorrow, have a profit-filled
weekend,
