When asked what the biggest discovery of the
modern age was, Albert Einstein said “compound
interest”
Turns out he probably didn’t actually say that
but it’s true and it makes for a pretty hallmark-
like quote.
So instead of talking about the stock market or
your lame level of interest in your savings
account we’re gonna talk about compound interest
in your business efforts.
This is an “Ah-Ha” moment that just happened to
me a few weeks ago.
It really put things in perspective for me when I
was getting discouraged about a project.
Basically it goes like this:
There’s no such thing as reward without putting
in the proper work, and the reward doesn’t happen
overnight.
The reward is based on the sum total and compounding
of all the small things that you do each day.
I know it sounds simple and kind of “duh, no kidding!”
But really think about it.
No famous person instantly got that way overnight.
They practiced and slept on people’s couches and got
paid peanuts for years.
All we hear about is the FINAL result.
All we see is the mansions and the cars and the boats.
All we think is that “I want it all right NOW so I
can be like THEM.”
But we need to put in the work first. We need to have
a TINY customer list before we can have a BIG list.
We need to make a single, lousy $5 sales before we
can get to that $100,000 sale.
We need to sleep on someone’s floor before we can
sleep in the hotel that we own.
We need to get angry, discouraged, and generally
beat up before we can have something to overcome
and go BEYOND.
It’s all about compounding. Without the tiny sale
you don’t have ANY sale.
Once you do something right, keep doing it and add
to it. It’s a very slow process at first, like
pulling a freighter with a row boat.
But, once you get it moving it keeps moving and
you keep adding to the pile, one small effort at
a time until the snowball turns into a glacier.
That’s the big secret. Keep doing the little things
over and over, compounding your effort.
