Small Business Consulting- One Hour Grows a Garage Door Empire

small business consultation- garage door installer

by Joshua Black

Today is day 3 of the Underdog Millionaire Birthday Extravaganza Week, and it’s all about small business consulting. I want to start out by thanking all of you for the great comments in yesterday’s first birthday post.

Just in case you are just tuning in, don’t think you have missed out on all the fun, because anyone that makes a comment and signs up for the Underdog Millionaire Tip Sheet at anytime this week, will get an awesome FREE report on 10 ways to generate more customers for NOTHING.

To repeat myself from yesterday, this report is taken straight out of my new book titled Underdog Marketing 101, which will cover 101 different way to get customers for nothing, and that puppy is soon to be released. I will send out the FREE report once the week is over.

Ok, on with the show…

Since it’s birthday week here at the ol’ Underdog Millionaire, I thought that it would be a perfect time to start highlighting some of the consulting projects that I have completed so far.

Each Wednesday I plan to give a few highlights from some of these consults, as well as use this day for marketing critiques and other quick-fixes that I feel would be valuable to you.

Today’s small business consultation is about a small company named Budget Garage Doors LLC. They are located in Missouri, USA. There are many unique things about this business, but one of the most powerful is that the owner is only 19 years old.

Now, Grant- the owner, is not just a regular 19-year-old snot-nosed kid. This guy is a shrewed business owner. He is also my best customer, because he has purchased every single one of my products.

Grant had concerns that his age would deter customers from doing business with them. I suggested that he play a different “role” in the company when meeting with clients, until he felt that this ageism was no longer an issue. There is nothing wrong with having your business be perceived as being larger than it truly it.

Therefor, we now have Grant walking up to a customer’s home as a “Senior Installer” instead of the “Owner.”  When Grant does a quote in the name of his business, the customer will just assume that there are a bunch more of him out in the field and when he installs a garage door with perfection, they will think “I sure hope the owner of that business knows how great his installers are.”

Grant’s second issue (an issue in almost every business in the world) was the need for more business.

One of the things that we worked on (and maybe you should too) is to work with current customers to get them to come back for more services and create a greater lifetime value out of them.

Most of Grant’s business right now is a one-shot deal. He installs a new door and then he does not expect to ever hear from the customer again for 20 years. During the consult, we worked on ways that he can add additional services, such as yearly inspection/maintenance plans, that he can use to make a more consistent income and stay in the forefront of his customer’s mind.

We’ll talk more about Grant in the future, as well as some of the other one-hour consults. I hope you find them really valuable.

You can read the results of the full consult here, as well as see a swanky photo of Grant playing golf (like a true, relaxed business owner).

If you are looking for a custom plan to help turn your business around, develop a new product, or you need help getting a marketing system in place, you are a good candidate for a small business consultation.

Again, I thank you for making the first anniversary of the blog a memorable one. Please feel free to Tweet about this post and spread the word about the Underdog Millionaire.

What do you think? How could a small business consultation appointment benefit the work that you are doing?

Until tomorrow,

Joshua Black

P.S. don’t forget to leave a comment in order to get your FREE customer generation report, straight out of the yet-to-be-released Underdog Millionaire 101. I will send the reports out at the end of the week.

Good article, Joshua. I’m always keen to read an article about any entrepreneur, especially a young one, who is out there fighting the good fight and overcoming the inevitable obstacles. Paul

Thanks for stopping by Paul. Yep, this guy is going to do some great things in the near future, with his small business.

Gerri

I may come back and take you up on your services in the near future. I have a business idea in mind but still need to get it up and running. Any help or suggestions in making it a success would be welcome. One major problem I have is getting my A into G and getting started!

Gerri,

Thanks for stopping by. Sometimes getting started is the hardest part. Good luck.
