Just got done catching my very first live
crabs from the ocean. They are on their
way to becoming tasty dinner, so I will
give you today’s lesson while I am waiting.
Today’s Tip Sheet has nothing to do with
crabs.
Instead it’s about something a little more
fragrant, perfume.
My girlfriend and I went back to the same
flea market that we were at yesterday…
We are suckers for a great deal.
Today she wanted to get some new perfume,
so I got suckered into going to the stinky
girl store.
Luckily they had a chair for me to sit and
watch another amazing lesson in sales unfold.
Today is all about SCARCITY.
The perfume vendor only had one bottle of the
latest and greatest “smelly stuff” that cost
about $80 in the department stores.
This lady had it for $40.
I still thought it was about $40 too much, but
hey, I buy hundreds of marketing books
for “fun” so I have no leg to stand on.
She showed it to my girlfriend and one other
woman. My gf said she was interested, but
wavered slightly in her voice.
This “master of the perfume sales” instantly
noticed her voice change and told the other
lady that she could have it since my gf
“probably wasn’t going to get it.”
Wow…
I have never seen anyone make up their mind
so fast.
Out came the wallet, and we left with a new
bottle of $40 whatever.
If this vendor had 10 bottles sitting on the
shelf, or even 2, this would never have worked.
But, since that was only one (I’m sure she had
more behind the counter, but I will never know),
the LAW OF SCARCITY immediately came into effect.
People LOVE having stuff that other people don’t
have.
That’s why we drive all over just to find the
perfect “whatever” for our homes.
If you can wrap scarcity into your sales message
some way, and in a REAL way that people will
believe, it breaks down the decision process and
will help you pout money in the bank.
