I just bought a new car yesterday and since I
was working with the most stereotypical sales
profession in the universe, I thought I’d share
my little experience with you.
I was an easy sale. The guy didn’t have to work
me at all. I knew exactly what I wanted and how
much I was willing to pay.
All I did was point and say “I will take this car
TODAY for CASH if you sell it to me for XXXX”
XXXX happened to be waaaaaaay less than the sticker
price, but I didn’t need the car and was willing
to walk away.
Here’s where they could have used ETHICAL sales.
Here’s the point where they COULD have built a
customer for life.
Here’s the point where they COULD have talked
to a friendly guy that knows a bunch of people that
he could recommend the dealership to.
But noooooooooooooooo!
They had to put on the old school, greasy, slimy
car salesman show that everyone fears and hates.
He said he had to talk to the manager.
They had the manage come out and BEG me to come up
higher.
They did the old sales trick of pulling out the big
piece pf paper with the prices they paid for all the
cars saying “I hate doing this, but I’m going to show
you that we are losing money on the deal.
Wow, was that the wrong thing to tell me.
That just made me smile.
At that point I could care less if the whole dealership
went bankrupt because of my car purchase.
They lived up to every single stereotype they possibly
could have and lost $400 on me.
I got a great car, but will never go back there unless
it needs to be fixed for warrantee work.
So where’s the lesson?
It didn’t have to go down that way.
I was EASY. Within 3 minutes of meeting the salesman
I told him I would buy TODAY for cash.
He didn’t have to do anything except say yes or no.
But out came the stereotypes and HE ruined it to try
and boost his commission, all because he didn’t see a
lifetime value when I walked in… just an instant
dollar sign.
Don’t treat YOUR customers this way.
No more Slick Willy the sales guy/gal!
Develop relationships and you will keep your customers
until you piss them off and they leave for someone
that will treat them better.
If you develop a relationship with your customers
they will even allow you to screw up every once in
awhile and still stick with you.
Try screwing up with a customer if you are acting
like a stereotype…
If you want EVEN MORE ways (37 to be exact) to really
establish relationships with your customers, give them
what they want ETHICALLY and keep them for life,

Financial freedom is just around the corner.
