I have a really short story for you today.
It’s completely true, but you probably won’t
believe it…
I actually own a book called “How to Stop
Procrastinating.” I couldn’t tell you who
the author is, and in fact I couldn’t tell
you much about it at all.
I have tried to read that thing 4 times in
the past 8 years, but I keep putting it
down and leaving it for later.
I am the king of procrastinating things I
don’t want to do and I’m sure you might be too.
I mean, if I WANT to do something I become an
absolute animal to finish it, working on a
project for 10-15 hours without breaks except
for food.
I’m not saying that to brag.
In fact, I don’t even know if that is worth
bragging about, but what I DO know is that we
get done what we want to get done and the rest
is like going to get a root canal.
Here is a quick little tip that you can use
to get yourself to stop procrastinating:
1. You will NEVER be caught up and you will
NEVER run out of things to do.
2. We are all drowning in options every day
so you need to pick the options that will make
the biggest difference in your life for that
particular day.
3. Each morning, before you do anything else
list 3 things that you MUST get done that day
on a note card, only 3 things allowed.
The number one thing needs to be the WORST,
biggest, hardest thing of the day and the other
two will follow in order of hard-ness.
4. If you only get one or two of the things done
that day, put the last item on the next day’s
card.
5. If the item is still on your cards after 3
days give up on it. You will probably NEVER do
it, so drop it.
That’s it.
No huge course required.
What do I pick?
I pick the things that build my business first.
I write to you and I make sure my article writing
for the day gets out of the way, because I can’t
write well at night.
Therefore, I save all of my hands-on tasks for the
evening.
As the day progresses, I take inventory of what I
need to do for my business the next day and make
sure it’s on the list for the next morning.
Make sure you write down your list.
There is a lot of feel-good value in getting things
accomplished and crossed-off, especially if you get
all 3 things done.
Then the rest of the day is yours.
Until tomorrow,
Joshua Black
