Just saw the Adam Sandler movie, “Funny
People” tonight…
It was pretty good. Plenty of toilet humor
to go around, but still a decent plot.
Without giving the movie away, it’s about a
rich comedian that really throws his life
away and then finds out he’s dying.
…Long story short, he gets to reconnect
with people from his past, because he wants
to start fresh and make amends before kicking
the bucket.
The big idea that I took away is that here is
a guy with all of this cool stuff around him,
but he has no one to share it with, since he
only had superficial relationships and no
REAL friends.
That’s the takeaway for your business and
selling message.
You have to have an honest relationship with
your customers.
They put food on your table. You need to share
with them, are else they will pull the rug out
from under you and you will have no buyers.
Don’t just have a superficial relationship with
the people that buy from you.
Don’t just put on some fake, crappy smile and
pretend you care about them until they leave.
Honestly, truthfully give a crap about your
customers and you won’t be left alone to eat
bon-bons by your dried up swimming pool.
People are not numbers.
I know I don’t like being treated like a number
when I’m at a store, so why do it to others?
Sure, most people will not “give” back.
There are plenty of freeloaders out there that
don’t make a purchase and will take advantage of
your hospitality…
You may even have family that does the same thing.
I know I have tons of clients that never make a
purchase from me, but I help them anyway, because
some day they may return the favor.
I still do it with no intention of reciprocity though.
The point is that you never know exactly who is going
to be your next buying customer, so you need to treat
them ALL well until you figure that out.
