Today’s tip sheet is brought you by the
letter “S” and the number “1.”
In case you didn’t get the Sesame Street
reference, It’s all about success and being #1
through a little phrase that I learned from
famous ad man Roy Williams.
He wrote that there are nine secret words
that will either make ya’ or break ya’
here we go…
“The risk of insult is the price of clarity”
What he means is that you need to tell your
customers exactly how it is, in your ads.
Just speak the simple plain truth and don’t
pile it up with sugar and sprinkles and b.s.
If it’s gonna hurt, tell ‘em
If it’s gonna be expensive, tell ‘em
If it only works for a certain percentage of
the population, tell ‘em
Some folks will praise you and appreciate
your directness.
Others will think you are “rude and unrefined.”
Well guess what?
The ones that like you buy from you. Screw the
ones that think you are rude, because they are
either just along for a free ride or they were
never gonna buy from you anyway.
If you can just tell it like it is in your ads
and then back it up with proof and believability,
then you will have something great.
Most business owners won’t be able to handle
the potential criticism, so those that do get
the big bag of money.
