Sometimes I get all bogged down and full of
myself, all high and mighty in my castle.
I think that I know exactly what my customers
will be looking for and then go on to create
a product that is a total bomb after a ton of
hard work.
I know that it’s a common occurrence among
small business owners and entrepreneurs.
We get a little high-and-mighty, too big for
our britches and go out there and build the
NEXT BIG THING that is sure to make us millions.
However, sometimes we forget one huge component
of the business creation process.
…we forget to ask the oracle.
In ancient times, people used to travel hundreds
of miles to go talk to an old crazy guy that lives
in a cave and ask him the most pressing question
of their lives.
The oracle would then go on to give them some
ambiguous answer, similar to a fortune cookie,
and the traveler would go on their merry way
all happy that they have “the answer.”
Well you are much luckier than that, my friend.
In fact, you don’t have to climb a mountain or
do any sort of shenanigans to find the answer.
You need to talk directly to YOUR oracle, your
current prospects, not your current customers,
because they may just tell you what you want to
hear.
You need to talk to the average Joe.
Get a hold of people that aren’t even in your
industry and ask them their opinion; your barber,
your mail carrier, your bartender, the store clerk,
anyone that has an opinion is fair game.
When you create a business in a bubble, where
you really can’t trust your own mind, because
it will play tricks on you, you need to go to
the oracle.
Speaking of oracles, I’d like to be your person
small business marketing oracle.
I am thinking of starting an Underdog Millionaire
University and I am looking for a few guinea pigs
(I am only going to take 5-10) people for this) that
would be interested in really moving their businesses
to the next level.
This first batch of students will be at a huge discount
while I work out all of the kinks, but basically
there will be homework, all on-line, and I will be
there to personally pester each one of you until
we fix your marketing issue together.
It will be about 12 weeks for the first session.

Some businesses are more conducive to this type of
training than others, so I will not be able to take
everyone, so no hard feelings if your business
won’t fit my model.
