In my younger days I used to work in a high-
end greenhouse that also happened to sell lawn
statues and other concrete things that you can
display around your house.
One of the hottest sellers during the summer
months was a statue of Saint Joseph, who happens
to be the patron saint of the home
…if you’re into that sort of thing.
I would tell the story to each interested
customer, of how you are supposed to bury the
statue upside down in a certain corner of your
house in order to help it sell faster.
We had all different kinds, from $70 on up,
and this was 15 years ago.
One of the hottest sellers was the size of a
4 year old.
This mammoth Saint Joe was huge.
I mean this sucker weighed in at like 100 lbs.
and it cost $300!
…for something that people were going to bury
in their yard and NEVER see again!
I mean, what a racket.
…but these customers ate it up and could not
get enough of the story. I had it down cold. I
could answer every angle of their skepticism,
but ultimately I was selling a blob of concrete
for a ton of money.
And they all walked away happy, knowing
that good ‘ol Saint Joe was going to help sell
their homes.
I have no idea if he lent a hand at all, but it
sure brightened their day.
…all through the power of story telling.
