How to Write Headlines Using The Power of Fear

by Joshua Black

Today on ye old Underdog Millionaire Tip Sheet
We are gonna talk about scaring the hell out of
your customers.

Now, before you get all excited and put your
finger on the ‘unsubscribe’ button, thinking I’m
a total nut-job… let me explain.

Sometimes when you scare a person with hiccups
you can make their brain forget what it was doing
for one second and it is just enough time to stop
hiccups.

It doesn’t work every time and you really need to
SCARE the person silly for it to work. You can’t
just say “boo!”

Anyway, I’m going to show you how to scare the
pants off your customers with your ad headlines
so that you can get them off the couch and into
your store or web site.

If you have a product that does not have mass-
appeal, like the latest Ipod or Video game, you
are probably going to have to show your customers
why they need your product.

One of the best ways to get someone’s attention
towards a product or service where they didn’t
know they needed it, is to scare the crap out
of them.

If you ever see the colon cleansing infomercials
at night, these people are masters at this.

I mean, most people don’t go around shopping for
this stuff, but by the end of the infomercial
they have you reaching for the phone, thinking
you could die at any second if you don’t buy
their product.

…so how in the heck do you do this with YOUR
business since you’re probably not in the colon
cleansing niche?

First, I want to say that this is not something
you want to use every time in your marketing, it
is merely one tool in your big of tricks.

Ok, here goes-

Take a benefit from your product, one of the
biggest benefits, and create a scary headline
around that benefit mixed with some REAL facts.

Here are a few made-up examples:

(supplement niche)
“Did you know that 9 out of 10 people do not get
enough raisin juice in their diet, and 4 of those
people will get cancer by the time they reach 40?”

(motivational speaker)
“8 out of 10 companies are losing thousands of
dollars every month in lost productivity due to
depression at work”

(software)
“It is easier for your bank account to be drained
by hackers than it is to get a paper cut, Lockdown
Software changes those odds for good”

see where I’m going?

You don’t sell your whole thing in the headline.

You just want to grab the person and get them
reading the rest of your sales piece.
