Haitian Woman Reveals USP Success Secret

On the radio this morning I heard a story
about a Haitian woman that owned her own
business.

It gets a little old hearing about the daily
doom and gloom coming out of that disaster,
so I thought it was a pretty cool change to
hear something positive…

On a really micro scale, she was essentially
a grocery wholesaler. She would obtain a
micro loan every two weeks from a small
bank, take a bus to the neighboring Dominican
Republic and buy goods in bulk.

That is not such a big deal, but what she
did with the stuff when she got back, is.

You see, this woman understood that her
customers (shopkeepers) also had no money,
but needed the goods to have something to
sell their customers.

She knew that she had to give her customers
what they wanted, BEFORE she could get what
she wanted.

Therefore, she extended these shopkeepers
tiny lines of credit, where she would
loan them the goods for 2 weeks and at the
end of that time, she would come back and
collect the money, just in time to make
her next bus trip to the Dominican.

Her little technique allowed her to own
her own house, put plenty of food on the
table, and paid for her children to go to
school.

Hmmmm… sounds a little like the
standard entrepreneur’s dream doesn’t it?

She did this by selling things like chicken
necks, flour, and other basics.

If she were to think non-creatively and
walk around demanding money BEFORE she handed
over the goods to her 10 customers, she
wouldn’t have sold a thing.

Instead, she was able to make money for
those 10 store owners, as well as herself, all
because she thought of her customers’ needs
first.

This is exactly the reason that you need to
have a Unique Selling Proposition (USP).

Your USP is the BIGGEST promise that you can
make your customers, showing them exactly
what you will give them in exchange for their
business.

Take it from the chicken neck lady, if you
give your customers what they want FIRST, then
you will get what you want in the end.
