Free Pen Closes $500k Sale…

If you are in the business of sales (and
since you have a business that means you
ARE a sales person), then you need to
hear this little story.

Fred was your average sales guy. He got
up in the morning, brushed his teeth,
dragged his tired body into his car and
went about his daily business.

Fred did not have any special training,
but he did have one secret up his sleeve
since he sold a very expensive piece of
equipment.

He knew that he needed to close if he
was going to eat, but that wasn’t his little
secret.

His little secret was a really nice pen.

Fred knew that if he got his customer’s to
change their mindset to a RECEIVING mode
instead of a defensive mode, they would be
more likely to buy.

…so Fred started with a pen.

He gave his customers a really nice pen
almost immediately after he met them for a
sales meeting.

They ALWAYS took the pen. Then, during the
conversation, he kept getting them to take
more stuff from him- brochures, business cards,
product videos, a huge pile of things.

By the end of the sales meeting, the prospect
had a desk full of things that were accepted
from Fred.

The customer become comfortable with taking
things from Fred… then came the magic.

Fred asked for a LITTLE sale. His product was
very expensive, so at the end he asked the
customer if they would like to try it for FREE
for a few days.

It would be a new unit, the unit that the
customer could purchase and keep.

…and what do you know, if he could get the
customer to take that one last thing, the free
demo, he could close them 6 out of 10 times.

His product cost $500,000 to purchase. Just think
