is a little bit of preference, but mostly<br />

<p>This is something that you want to avoid<br />
as if your life depends on it.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t want a &#8220;toilet paper&#8221; business.<br />
Hell, even if you are selling toilet paper,<br />
you need to make sure that you are focusing<br />
on your customer&#8217;s WANTS instead.</p>
<p>You see, people WANT a big ass house. People<br />
WANT nice jewelry. People WANT a beautiful<br />
fur coat or a fine Italian sports car.</p>
<p>They don&#8217;t NEED any of that stuff in order<br />
to live every day, but it doesn&#8217;t matter.</p>
<p>WANTS are where the emotions are. You can<br />
turn any business into something that focuses<br />
on the customer&#8217;s wants.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s called VALUE.</p>
<p>When you create value for your customers,<br />
you can take a product that does not have<br />
a large development cost for you, but is<br />
worth a ton of money for your customer.</p>
<p>You can take a product or service that<br />
only costs you a few dollars to deliver<br />
and you can show your customers that there<br />
is such a high level of value, that you<br />
can get hundreds of dollars in return.</p>
<p>How&#8217;s that for printing money?</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not talking about cheating your<br />
customers either.</p>
<p>I just mean that you need to spell out<br />
exactly what you are going to do for your<br />
customer, and what the product will do<br />
for your customer.</p>
<p>You can add bonuses and free gifts on top<br />
of it, easily developing ANY business<br />
transaction into a HUGE pile of value for<br />
the customer.</p>
<p>The rule of thumb that I like to use is<br />
to make the value-added services and materials<br />
worth so much that they are worth MORE than<br />
the purchase price of the product.</p>
<p>The customer should be able to literally<br />
throw your product away and still be<br />
satisfied with the extra value they receive.</p>
<p>You can do this with any business.</p>
<p>You just might have to tweak it a little,<br />
depending on what you are doing.</p>
<p>Show your customers that you truly care about<br />
them and print a little cash for yourself<br />
in the process.</p>

my sister&#8217;s Mark Kay training books, just so<br />
I could see how their training plan worked)</p>
<p>The big thing that Mark Kay is famous for are<br />
the pink cars that you see driving all over<br />
the country.</p>
<p>She gives those cars away to people that are<br />
top producers, selling the most cosmetics in<br />
a given year.</p>
<p>Not only are these cars a badge on honor, but<br />
they are a great incentive/advertisement to<br />
get others to envy the car and want to be<br />
just like the person behind the wheel.</p>
<p>In fact I saw a pink Escalade the other day.<br />
That person must have been the saleswoman of<br />
the year.</p>
<p>This is the pinnacle of a great bird-dog<br />
program.</p>
<p>Bird-dogging is a system where you reward<br />
your most productive sellers for bringing<br />
you new customers.</p>
<p>Of course you probably aren&#8217;t in the<br />
of passing out cars willy-nilly, and you<br />
may not have any employees besides yourself.</p>
<p>However, that does not mean that you can&#8217;t<br />
reward your customers for referring you<br />
some new blood.</p>
<p>You may have a core group of people that<br />
are very social and just love to give<br />
their opinion to other people.</p>
<p>These are your classic bird-dogs.</p>
<p>Try and devise some kind or rewards<br />
system for your business and see how many<br />
new customers come running through your<br />

<p>Alice gets stuck fighting between what<br />
her family/society would like her to<br />

<p>She turns down a marriage engagement in front<br />
of a very influential group of people in<br />
order to follow the life she wants to live.</p>
<p>&#8230;essentially burning some serious bridges<br />
behind her in order to pursue her passion,<br />
which happens to be fighting a Jabberwocky.</p>
<p>This is the lesson the Alice has for us in<br />
business:</p>
<p>When you are trying to make a name for<br />
yourself, showing your prospects that you are<br />
the business that will help them with their<br />
problem better than any other, make sure<br />
that you show that difference in your own<br />
way.</p>
<p>If you pick the same path that every other<br />
business in your industry uses in order to<br />
get new business, then what message is that<br />
giving to your customer?</p>
<p>Sometimes it&#8217;s a really good idea to burn<br />
all of your old bridges behind you, as Alice<br />
did, in order to be able to move forward<br />
and try something new with your business.</p>
<p>One of the best ways to try something new<br />
is to have established relationships with your<br />
customers.</p>
<p>Once you have these long-term relationships,<br />
you will be able to grow your business much<br />
easier, instead of trying to gather new<br />
customers all the time.</p>
<p>Your current customers will be very candid<br />
with you and will allow you some freedom to<br />
try a few new ideas without jumping ship.</p>
<p>Just like Alice&#8217;s furry friends that had to<br />
convince her to drink stuff that made her<br />
and eat cake that made her grow, if that<br />
relationship wasn&#8217;t there, convincing<br />
people to make a purchase decision can<br />
be brutal.</p>

<p>I want to show you a way that you can grab<br />
some new customers with a simple trick that<br />
anyone can use whether you have an online<br />
business or brick and mortar business.</p>
<p>First I want to tell you a story:</p>
<p>When I was a kid (a long time ago) I used<br />
to collect bubble comics. Each of these comics<br />
was worth a certain amount of points and you<br />
could save them up and order cook stuff (pocket<br />
knives) out of this little catalog.</p>
<p>Once you sent in your 5,000 comics and<br />
your check for shipping and handling, you got<br />
your prize promptly in about 8 months.</p>
<p>The waiting didn&#8217;t matter though, because that<br />
was the exciting part about the whole process.</p>
<p>That &#8220;thing&#8221; that you were waiting to get<br />
in the mail was always in the back of your<br />
mind.</p>
<p>Well, that leads into what I wanted to say<br />
today. You can use this anticipation to get<br />
new customers.</p>
<p>The first thing you need to do is make sure<br />
you have a sold USP for your business.<br />

<p>Once you have that, you can make a quiz,<br />
survey, test, something that people will<br />

<p>The prize has to be worth more than the time<br />
it takes to fill out the quiz or people won&#8217;t<br />

<p>Have a deliberate delay between the time it<br />
takes to fill out the survey and the time<br />
you send out the prize.</p>
<p>This will bring anticipation aimed at your<br />
business, even if it&#8217;s just for a short time.</p>
<p>Finally, after you send them the prize, you<br />
can market to them consistently over time,<br />
using your USP as the message.</p>

we need to operate our businesses.</p>
<p>Once you have convinced your customer that<br />
you are the only business in town that can<br />
solve their specific problem, you have to<br />
make sure that you keep delivering on that<br />
promise.</p>
<p>Just like the post office &#8220;neither rain nor<br />
sleet nor snow&#8230;&#8221; you have to keep delivering<br />
day after day.</p>
<p>A sale is one of the most fragile creatures<br />
you have available to you in the business<br />
world.</p>
<p>Anything, and I mean anything can cause a<br />
sale to go south.</p>
<p>Customers have no loyalty, and those that<br />
are loyal are fairly easily distracted by<br />
something new and shiny over here.</p>
<p>Therefore, you have to keep delivering on your<br />
original USP. You have to keep that experience<br />
the same no matter how bad you feel when you<br />
wake up in the morning.</p>
<p>This is where the customers keep coming back.</p>
<p>The show must go on every single day. If your<br />
customers notice that your business is starting<br />
to falter they might drop you like a hot sack<br />
of potatoes.</p>
<p>Wow, I feel so crappy I&#8217;m not even going to<br />
recommend a product for you to buy today.</p>

<p>Until recently I also operated under the<br />
misconception that I have to fill every waking<br />
moment doing SOMETHING.</p>
<p>However, I was listening to a book on CD in<br />
my car yesterday (yes, it drives all of my<br />
passengers insane. I probably have 300 books<br />
on tape in my car and 5 music CDs).</p>
<p>On this particular CD the author said that<br />
it was OK to be bored&#8230;</p>
<p>I almost crashed my car.</p>
<p>There was no way that my grandmother was wrong.</p>
<p>It turns out she wasn&#8217;t. It was me that didn&#8217;t<br />
get the whole message.</p>
<p>Sometimes you need to just sit and do NOTHING.<br />
However, the act of doing nothing is SOMETHING.</p>
<p>This is not boredom out of the fact that you<br />
just don&#8217;t appreciate the time you have. It&#8217;s<br />
deliberate boredom.</p>
<p>This is a time to re-set your subconscious so<br />
that you can answer some of the most powerful<br />
questions in your life.</p>
<p>When you fill your day with all of the<br />
different rinky-dink problems in your business,<br />
you don&#8217;t get the time to REALLY solve the big<br />
problems.</p>
<p>&#8230;like financial freedom</p>
<p>&#8230;like providing for your family</p>
<p>&#8230;like obtaining all of your personal goals.<br />
Well, with a small re-set by just sitting and<br />
thinking, not watching TV or doing anything else.</p>
<p>Just think clearly about the things you want<br />
to accomplish and you can come up with some amazing<br />
ideas.</p>

<p>Here is where you offer complimentary<br />
products and/or services that go along with<br />
the purchase that the customer is making.</p>
<p>To make these situations even more powerful,<br />
you can offer services that are ONLY available<br />
at the time of up-sell for a given package price.</p>
<p>The offer has to be truth, however. The<br />
special deal can&#8217;t be something that they<br />
can get anywhere else.</p>
<p>Since the person&#8217;s guard is down, they will be<br />
much more open to the idea of adding just one<br />
more purchase to the total sale.</p>
<p>&#8220;Hey, I already spent $4500, what&#8217;s $100 more<br />
going to do to me?&#8221;</p>
<p>With each sale that you close, consider adding<br />
the up-sell every time.  You will be surprised at<br />
the amount of extra revenue that comes in.</p>

<p>Here we go.</p>
<p>1. Your business cards- Keep them on<br />
you at all times. Give them away like water<br />
instead of holding onto them like gold.</p>
<p>Use both sides! The back should read like<br />
a mini sales letter. Don&#8217;t leave the back<br />
blank. It&#8217;s a crime.</p>

<p>Give them to everyone you are introduced to<br />
in ANY social situation. People love to<br />
refer people to other businesses. If you<br />

interview you. Create it as a podcast and<br />
give it away all over the net for big<br />
exposure. Email a link to your customers.</p>
<p>3. Always have a call to action in every<br />
marketing piece you send out. Nothing should<br />
leave your business without asking the<br />
customer to do something.</p>
<p>4. Join a network of other business<br />
owners. This can be one of your biggest<br />
assets for making great contacts and getting<br />
a huge pile of new referrals.</p>
