When you are writing a sales letter for
your product or service, there is a
critical test that you should consider before
unleashing it out on the world.
It’s something that is used at the big-name
advertising firms out there.
…but you can use it too.
…and it won’t cost you a dime.
It’s actually called the Bar Test, but
I thought the Vodka Test sounded sexier
and that’s what the test is all about.
You see, when advertisers sell booze they
don’t get a lot to work with.
Everything that’s related to selling
alcohol has something to do with the
buyer’s image.
This drink will make you attractive.
This drink will make you smarter.
This drink will make you taller etc.
Since there is not a lot of difference
in taste between many of these products,
they have to focus on emotions and the
buyer’s ego instead.
That is why this is called the Bar Test.
Can you sell your product to a customer
when it’s up on that shelf in a sea of
other products or services just like it?
This is what you should focus on in
your copywriting for your next sales letter.
People don’t give a crap about your weed
killer. They just want their crabgrass
dead.
People don’t care about your drill bits,
they just want holes in a piece of wood.
They don’t care how great your drink
tastes, they want to feel beautiful.
That’s the bar test.
Next time your going to write a sales
letter, think about adding it to your
arsenal.
