Certain Words Can Make You Rich?

Today’s Tip Sheet is part 1 of 5. This
is a topic that can really jumpstart
your business without a lot of work on
your end.

The way that you say something can have
a huge impact on your sales rate.

Just like a politician, one slip of
the tongue, or something that comes across
in a different way than you meant it, can
mean the difference between a purchase
or NOT…

Believe it or not, we are writing more
than ever before, but our writing now is
waaaaaay different than it was even 10 years
ago.

Today, communication is short. People of
certain generations are texting more than
they are talking, and that short, abbreviated
language has even crept over into conversational
speech.

So, now when a person likes you joke, they
might even say “lol” instead of bothering to
laugh (I actually know people that do this).

Are we abbreviating our communication into
oblivion? Nah.

Is this REALLY scary for English teachers? Yep.

Language evolves all the time and the words
that you use when you are writing your
advertising needs to reflect the words that
the common folk use in every day speech.

If you write the way that you talk, especially
in your sales letters, you will develop a huge
amount of credibility amongst your customers.

As Dr. Frank Luntz says “It’s not what you
say, it’s what people here.”

If you put a bunch of 50 dollar words in your
advertising and your typical customer doesn’t
use those words in daily speech, then your
sales letter is going to sound like Charlie
Brown’s teacher in the Peanuts cartoons
“blaahhh blaaahhh blahhhh blahhh blaaaaah,”
and nothing more.

Remember, this is not about the ethics of
language.

This is not about whether our culture is
deteriorating, or whether all of the kids
of today are going to hell in a hand basket.

Who cares? Leave that to the novelists.

This is about making money with your writing
and nothing else. Write the way people talk
and you will get them to listen, perhaps
even buy.

Whether it’s good or bad is irrelevant. That’s
the way it is.
