I wanted to start off this week with a
few sales tips that can help you move
your business along.
Some business owners (not you of
course) like to use the sales technique
where they beat the customer into submission.
…hoping that eventually, with enough
pressure, the customer will just “give
up” and buy something.
This is all lovely and great if you are
running a carnival game, or you are a
snake oil sales person with a cart and
you travel from town to town fleecing
customers one by one.
However, for 99% of the rest of us that
actually want to build a business, you
are going to have to try a different
approach.
Here are 37 tips that you can use to
close the sale quickly and ethically:

If you want some tips RIGHT NOW, here
are 5 easy tips that you can incorporate
into your small business right NOW, that
will help you close the sale and keep
long-term customers without using the hammer
of Thor to make the sale:
1. You’ve gotta give before you can get-
Your customer needs to see that they can
trust you and that you will provide for
them, before they will be willing to make
that long-term customer commitment.
2. Sometimes you have to lose little bit
of money in order to keep the customer.
Yes, if you don’t want the person to go
down the street, you might have to lose
a little on a small sale in order to close
that high-profit deal later.
3. Sell the customer what they WANT, not
what they need. Talk to them. Find out
what their real problem is and solve it.
If they don’t want what you are selling,
don’t sell it to them. Use the customer’s
emotions to help close the sale. People
need toilet paper, but they want a new
car and a shiny fridge.
4. Never let the customer forget about
you. Contact them on a frequent basis. They
won’t just sit at home hoping to buy from
you.
5. Go out of your way to help your best
customers. The old 80/20 rule at work here.
Make that special effort to help those
customers that buy the most from you, or
are your biggest fans.

Hey Joshua,
Great title!
Every tip you provide is so important. However, the first one must be implemented every single time. People need to read that out loud or paste it somewhere so they can see it everyday.
Chat with you later…

Josh,
Yep. If you are a business owner and you are just focused on the getting side of things, you might as well close up shop. Your customers will have about as personal an experience as they would when walking into one of the “big box” stores.

Hey Joshua,
I agree with the give before you get. I used to get that wrong as of…oh…about 1 month ago. I was just trying to sell my stuff, versus, giving first.
Good stuff,

I hear you Brandon. I was there as well, trying to hammer in the sale. I still slip and do it every now and then, but for the most part, slow and steady winds the race.

Joshua,
Good tips for sure. I agree you have to keep in regular contact with the customer, but you have to do it without being annoying!

Mike,
Yep, I’ve found that if you can give your customers frequent, USEFUL tips, you can stay in contact with them indefinitely. They like your service and end buying from you in the end.
